[edit] Abstract

John Bolton, the US's main ambassador to the United Nations, may not be confirmed by the Senate before the power handover to the Democrats.

[edit] Details

The Bush administration pushed John Bolton's appointment to the position of US ambassador for the US during Congressional recess to avoid criticism from the Senate. Now, Bush has asked the still Republican controlled senate to confirm John Bolton before the Democrats take power in January.

However, there is still much opposition to John Bolton's appointment in the Senate, from members of both political parties. There is little doubt that if he has not been confirmed by the time the Democrats come into power of both the House and the Senate in January, he will be recalled and replaced.

The question now is whether president George Bush can convince the Senate to confirm Bolton, quickly.
