[edit] Abstract

Saddam Hussein's trial and death sentence 'unfair' says Human Rights Watch.

[edit] Details

The Human Rights Watch says the numerous problems with Saddam's trial makes the death sentence unfair. They argue the several irregularities in the trial, including the deaths of the lawyers, the procedures used, the fact that it was a local court hearing a case of crimes against humanity, normally held in international courts, and more all contribute to the claim that Saddam's trail was unfair.

Saddam's lawyers have also complained that they are being blocked from making a proper appeal, despite comments from Iraqi officials that the appeal will happan and that they have full confidence in the trial, court and sentence.

While the appeal will no doubt be heard, it seems unlikely the Iraqi court will change or delay Saddam's death sentence.
