Families across the UK are donning their walking boots and heading to the hills in response to a new campaign offering free maps of walks across the UK from online car hire specialist carrentals.co.uk.
Launched just a few weeks ago, hundreds of people have already downloaded the walking maps, proving that as a nation we are starting to shun the couch for some more physical exercise.
Top of the walking chart is a 10-mile hike from Achintee to Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands, showing Brits aren’t scared of longer routes, while a 9-mile stint in Yorkshire comes in close second place, followed by a more sedate 6-mile walk in Greater Manchester.
carrentals.co.uk teamed up with walking specialist go4awalk.com as part of its Family Active campaign, and is offering a choice of 56 walks available as free downloads from the website www.carrentals.co.uk/familyactive.
The top 10 walks to date are - 1. Ben Nevis from Achintee, in the Scottish Highlands – 16km/10 miles 2. Spurn Head from Kilnsea, in Yorkshire – 14.5km/9 miles 3. The Bridgewater Canal from Dunham Town, in Greater Manchester – 9.5km/6 miles 4. Trevescan & Sennan Cove from Land’s End, in Cornwall – 8km/5 miles 5. Gordale Scar & Malham Cove from Malham, in North Yorkshire – 12km/7.5 miles 6. Cowpe Lowe & Cowpe Moss from Cowpe, in Lancashire – 13km/8 miles 7. Smarts Hill from Penshurst, in Kent – 7kms/4.5 miles 8. Box Hill from Mickleham, in Surrey – 11km/7 miles 9. Jack & Jill from Ditchling Beacon, in East Sussex – 9km/5.5 miles 10. Brown Willy from St Breward, in Cornwall – 17.5km/11 miles
Andrew Stevens, managing director of carrentals.co.uk, said: “The downloadable walks have proved to be hugely popular and it’s great to see that families are taking the opportunity to do more together over the summer holidays. The walks are available all over the UK and are suitable for all levels of experience, so we hope even more people will be encouraged to get out and about over the coming months.”
The maps are still available and can be downloaded from the Family Active section on the carrentals.co.uk website. The walks are available in some of the UK’s most scenic locations and have been selected by walking specialist go4awalk.com to offer something for all abilities.
Go4awalk.com is an award winning website providing information about where and how to go walking across the UK, and offers a growing choice of walks for all levels.
The carrentals.co.uk Car Hire Family Active campaign is also offering special offers for days out at attractions around the country, free Baby on Board stickers and free audio book downloads with Audible.co.uk.
