[edit] Abstract
SEATAC International Airport in Seattle Washington HAS REPLACED all Christmas trees on display throughout the airport that it had taken down before the weekend in response to a request by a Jewish rabbi to include a menorah in the holiday display. The trees were replaced due to public outcry.
[edit] Details
After being taken down for only a few days, the Christmas trees are back up at the major international airport in Seattle Washington, SEATAC. The trees had been removed from display after the airport authority had recieved a request from a rabbi to include a Jewish menorah in the displays. The trees are now back on display as the airport authority quickly reversed its decision due to public outcry, and a flood of hate mail that the rabbi has since received.
The rabbi's lawyer had threatened to sue the airport if it didn't comply with the request. However, nowhere in the rabbi's request was there anything about removing the exisiting trees and displays. The rabbi wanted to foster a feeling of inclusion by simply including a Jewsih menorah in the displays. Now he faces hate mail delivered to him as a result of the SEATAC airport authorities' decision.
As for the holiday displays, the airport authority has decided to keep the Christmas tree displays exactly as they are for this year, but plans to have a festive display next year that honors and reflects all sections of the community.
